    What Are IPF GL Points?

    IPF GL (Goodlift) Points are the official bodyweight-normalized scoring system of the International Powerlifting Federation, effective from May 1, 2020. They replaced the 2018 IPF formula (which itself had replaced Wilks at IPF events in 2019) to improve fairness across weight classes, genders, and equipment categories.

    Why IPF GL Points Matter

    Unlike raw totals alone, IPF GL Points express your performance relative to the elite reference level at your bodyweight. Per the official IPF coefficient document, the normalization factor of 100 means 100 GL points equals the golden-standard elite productivity for that bodyweight — not a total of 100 kg.

    Scientific Foundation and Sources

    IPF GL coefficients were derived through regression analysis on elite athlete samples (Golden Standard Samples) from official IPF international competitions and records from 2011 onward, as documented in the official coefficient publication. The IPF technical evaluation team (Kopayev, Onyshchenko, Stetsenko) assessed multiple formulas before GL was adopted.

    Official IPF GL Formula

    IPF GL Points = Total (kg) × (100 / (A − B × e^(−C × bodyweight)))

    Coefficients A, B, and C vary by gender and competition type (classic/equipped, full powerlifting or bench press). Per IPF procedure: compute the equalization coefficient, round to 6 decimal places, multiply by the result in kg, then round the points to 6 decimal places. Public score sheets typically display 2–3 decimals.

    Optional McCulloch Age Adjustment

    The McCulloch coefficient is a separate age-correction model used by OpenPowerlifting for cross-age comparison. It is not part of official IPF GL scoring. IPF awards age-group medals based on actual totals within Sub-Junior, Junior, Open, and Master divisions.

    • 14–23 years: multipliers from 1.23 down to 1.00 (youth adjustment)
    • 24–39 years: 1.00 (no adjustment in this model)
    • 40+ years: progressive multipliers compensating for age-related strength decline
